Top beers on the planet...

http://beeradvocate.com/top_beers.php

It's not a coincidence that 7 out of the top 10 beers on the planet are russian imperial stouts (my fav). However, there are ALOT from Russian River and other US breweries on top of this list. Maybe this list was reviewed by people in the US primarily. Has anyone tried any of these?

  1. I will be visiting Russian River when out in Cali next month :)

Please keep in mind these rankings are extremely biased towards big beers like Quads, RISs, Barleywine, and Imperial Hop bombs. I spend a lot of time on this site and they don't rate beers the way they should be...by style. You can't compare a Kolsch which is very subtle to a Quad which is very complex and expect that to be fair. Compare a Kolsch to a Kolsch. People also said they would rate higher because the beer is rare or hard to get. But that doesn't make the beer better or mean it's a good example of the style.

  2. That makes sense. They do seem pretty unapologetic about how the ratings were calculated. For example:

    Q: How can {insert beer} be better than {insert beer}?
A: Ask your first grade math teacher.

Luckily my 1st grade math teacher wasn't an alcoholic, haha. We must discuss your trip when you get back. I bet it will be awesome!
